It is important that you notify your insurance company that you have a new physician before you come for your appointment. Their phone number should be on the back of your insurance card.
We should also have access to your previous medical records from your former physician. We will be glad to help you obtain these records.
We see children by appointment. Well-baby or well-child exams need to be scheduled 2 to 3 months in advance. Sick visits are always available the same day if the problem is urgent, but we do ask you to call the office at (415) 383-3500 to make the appointment. To be able to see patients with appointments in a timely fashion, we will ask that all walk-in patients (those without appointments) wait until all other patients currently in the office have been seen, unless there is a genuine emergency. We do attempt to keep waiting times at a minimum, though sometimes emergencies or complicated problems require extra time.
We usually see newborns for checkups once within the first week, then again several weeks later, then at 2,4,6,9,12,15,18, and 24 months. After that we schedule yearly checkups until age 5, then every 1 to 2 years thereafter.
On-Call (emergency) Coverage
We are members of the Marin IPA Pediatric After Hours Call Group, which operates an evening and weekend clinic located next to Marin General Hospital. The clinic is open every evening, weekend, and holiday. An advice nurse is available after hours by calling 464-1350. You can also schedule an appointment with a pediatrician at the clinic between 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm weeknights and 9:30 am and 9:00 pm weekends and weekends and holidays by calling 464.1350. A record of every call and visit is sent to us by fax. In general, your child’s care will be most quickly and appropriately delivered by the pediatrician in the After Hours Group, rather than going to the Emergency room. Unless your child has an emergency serious enough to call 911 (such as a seizure) or definitely needs stitches for a cut, talk to the advice nurse before going to the ER.
We do not recommend that our patients use Urgent Care and most insurance plans will not cover a visit to urgent care for pediatric patients. The After Hours Clinic is always staffed by a pediatrician and always covered by your insurance plan.
