Amelia Baurmann, CNM
A third generation Bay Area native, Amelia grew up in Oakland, California. She attended San Francisco State University, and graduated in 1996 with a BA in Liberal Studies with a Sociology minor. After this, she spent several years traveling and seeking her vocation in life. She visited India, Cuba and Mexico, and took several road trips through the US. She began working at the Berkeley Free Clinic as a volunteer health care worker in 1998, where she stayed for three years before moving to El Paso, Texas. It was there that she discovered Midwifery and knew without a doubt that she had found her life’s work. In a free-standing birth center that also served as a direct-entry Midwifery training program, she learned to attend birth with little technology or medication. With this knowledge and trust in the birth process in hand, she decided to pursue her Master’s degree in Nurse Midwifery.
After returning to California, she worked for several years at Planned Parenthood while completing the courses she needed to prepare for Nursing school. Here, she became well-versed in contraception and well-woman care, as well as options counseling for unplanned pregnancies. Her passion for the rights of education and choice in women’s reproductive health was fueled during these years, and remain central to her philosophy of practice. She received her Master’s degree in Midwifery and Women’s Health from the UCSF School of Nursing in 2009.
Upon graduation she began to practice in a small community hospital in Davis, where she stayed for over five years. It was also in this hospital that she gave birth to her son Miles in 2012. She and her family have since returned to the Bay Area and have settled in Marin County. She is grateful and thrilled to be here and to be able to serve the women and families of the community as a Midwife. She loves working with women from diverse backgrounds and is fluent in Spanish. In her free time she loves to be with her family and friends and to hike in the hills around her home.

Since then, as a certified nurse midwife and women’s health nurse practitioner, Brooke has served women and families in the Bay Area at One Medical Group, St Luke’s Women’s Center, Alameda Health System and Planned Parenthood, in addition to Prima Medical Group.
